Summary Of Duties
Supports production manufacturing by constructing and repairing molds and machine parts using experience, skill and good judgement. Develops mold function and structure by studying blue prints of mold, product and prototypes; applying knowledge of materials under stress, machining and assembly methods and mathematics.
Machine parts by measuring, marking and scribing stock, setting up and operating lathe, mill, radial drill, CNC EDM, grinders, CNC machining centers, etc. Confirms dimensions of mold components, fits mold components to mating tools. Completes assembly of tool and confirms performance of mold by filling out visual checklist.
Builds and directs others in the construction of a complete mold. Demonstrates competency in a specialty skill such as welding, Wire EDM, electrode modeling, Hot Runner Maintenance and repair, etc.
Ability to read and interpret common scientific and technical journals and blueprints. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and present information in one-on-one to employees. Good communication skills to exchange processing ideas with project managers, cost estimators, design engineers, toolmakers and production personnel. Ability to apply concepts such as basic trigonometry, geometry, fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
